DHI Medical Group recognizes that the correct diagnosis is the basis for a successful and permanent treatment. That's why developed a sophisticated diagnostic system for hair loss, the UDSA.

  • UDSA - Advanced Diagnostic System

The UDSA was developed by a team of world-renowned experts to provide an accurate diagnosis for all types of alopecia, hair disorders and scalp. The UDSA examines each case, including psychological aspects, a dermatologic examination, testing and mathematical aspects of alopecia DHI; before determining the appropriate treatment plan.

In our USDA system we analyze:

    • + Psychological Aspects
    • + Dermatological Aspects
    • + Mathematical calculations
    • + DHI Alopecia Test (With our advanced software of capillary diagnosis)

A team of experts from DHI including management consultant, dermatologist, plastic surgeon, psychologist and endocrinologist are involved in the diagnostic process, according to the needs of each patient. A scientific council of international renown, oversees and approves all plans for alopecia treatment in Colombia.

Why we develop this diagnosis system?

Research made by DHL shows that:

    • - 67.3% (3 out of 4) of men and women who suffer hair loss opted for treatment without proper medical diagnosis.
    • - 3 out of 4 men and women suffer from some type of disorder related to hair loss.
    • - That is 63% of the population suffers from this condition.
    • - Just as all people are different, also is their alopecia, as do their treatments.

It is vital to know at what stage of alopecia is on the Norwood-Hamilton scale for male pattern baldness and anatomy of the hair follicle in which each patient is. Classification systems serve as a basis that allows doctors to evaluate the results of various treatments and make scientific conclusions.

  • What is my type of alopecia?

In order to identify in what stage of alopecia is a patient, we use a tool called the Norwood scale for men and the Ludwig scale for women. This tool allows us to identify, evaluate alternatives and draw scientific conclusions.
The classification of alopecia is related to the aesthetic details of the person at the specific time when your problem is examined, and not to the future development of hair loss, which has to be clinically tested by an experienced physician. This procedure is called "prognosis" and is included in the diagnosis of alopecia.

    Which in my class Norwood?

    • Class 1 to 3

Shortage or absence of hair in the front area.
    • Classes 4 and 5

Absence of hair in the frontotemporal area and the area of the crown with a hair band that clearly separates the two areas.
    • Classes 6 and 7

There is only a narrow portion of the hair, which extends over the ears and joints to the neck.

    Which in my class Ludwig?

    • Type I

At this stage, the first signs of hair loss, inconspicuous in the center line are noticed and is rated as mild.
    • Type II

At this stage, hair thinning increases, resulting in finer hair and the exposed area increases, occupying the crown area. This stage is classified as moderate.
    • Type III

In this type of baldness has taken almost all the upper area, at the crown being very noticeable. This is the last phase and is described as extensive.

With DHI follicles are implanted one to one directly in the balding area. Then with our DHI implanter specially designed and patented, each follicle is carefully implanted in one direction and angle specified depth. Thanks to the DHI standardization of the Total Care System, including procedures and protocols, providing 100% natural results and maximum density. We only select the strongest and most viable hair follicles from the donor area (usually from the back of the head) to ensure that our patients receive the highest success rate, which can be up to 97% compared to our regular competitors offering 50%. The implanted hair will continue to grow for life without falling.

    Phases of hair transplant

    • Extraction phase:

Hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor, using a disposable tool designed specifically with diameter of 1mm or less. Follicles are maintained at a specific temperature and with a solution that maintains its vitality. Throughout the procedure no cuts, no pain, and without damaging any tissue are performed.

    • Implementation phase:

Follicles are implanted in the region where there is hair loss using a patented DHI tool, which has a diameter of 1 mm or less, depending on the size of the follicle that is removed. This procedure needs to be seen microscopically as it leaves no holes or cracks.

    • Natural results:

Thanks to DHI implanter we can have total control of depth, direction and angle of placement follicle, ensuring 100% natural results, the maximum viability and the permanence of it.

    Features of hair transplant

    • Completely safe:

All DHI surgeons are certified and undergo extensive and rigorous training at the Academy of DHI in the art and science of hair restoration. Each DHI surgeon is certified by the Academy of Hair Restoration in London before they touch patients, and recertify every year based on the quality of their results.

    • Without pain:

Extraction and implantation of hair are virtually pain free. Both for extraction and implantation of follicles, only disposable instruments with very small diameter of 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm are used to ensure the best results in each of its procedures.

    • 100% natural results:

The new hair will have a natural look due to the control of the depth, direction and angle of placement during hair transplant. In addition, only the most healthy and viable for hair that are genetically engineered to grow follicles are selected and implanted. These follicles never fall again.

    • Faster healing and better growth:

Follicular units are removed with special DHI tool design that leaves nothing more than a micro hole which is not more than 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm without leaving scars, no stitches, no scalpels, less bleeding and faster healing 3 to 4 days.

Micropigmentation (MPG) is an innovative technique in DHI; It is used to reduce the appearance of large areas of hair loss, which have been affected by alopecia, genetic factors or specific health problems. It is applied in small dots that mimic tiny hairs in a closely shaven scalp.
The purpose of this method is to present the illusion of high density of hair. Small spots are pigmented in the middle of existing hair or hair transplant to help create the illusion of high density leads to a more satisfactory appearance.
Micropigmentation tool is suitable for controlling the depth of your application and achieve a semi-permanent result (at least 2 to 3 years). The method is administered by a trained doctor and not by DHI assistants.

Direct micropigmentación can be applied in the following conditions:

    • In cases of androgenetic alopecia

To increase the appearance of existing hair density problematic areas.

    • In high Norwood scale

For people who have a very poor donor area or exceeded 50% of its removal from the donor area. In this case, the micropigmentación can be applied both in the donor area and the receiving area.

    • The Alopecia cases that can not be operated or disorders

It is not recommended where the hair transplant is not recommended. If the patient suffers from systemic microangiopathy or cytotoxic medicaments, or conditions that could affect the survival of the transplanted follicles and hair transplant (type 1 diabetes, scarring alopecia, atherosclerosis or smoking, etc.) Major skin disorders such as vitiligo, alopecia areata and other connective tissue diseases (lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, etc.), Sarcoidosis or (total alopecia).

For all women, hair loss is daunting. A woman who notices the beginning of hair loss can not be sure if it will be temporary or permanent. Events such as pregnancy or illness are associated with hair loss.
In women, like men, the most likely cause of hair loss is androgenic alopecia. However, it develops and evolves differently than men. So in fact another metric is used to identify the status of alopecia; the Ludwig scale.

  • Female alopecia

Alopecia in women develops front and top of the head level, despite that, it develops in a more diffuse pattern than male baldness and shape usually maintain the integrity of the first line which generally makes no big bold areas. Its evolution occurs more slowly than in men because rarely reaches such advanced stages.
Many researchers have tried to classify androgenetic alopecia in women to establish the degree of involvement and to unify therapeutic, doctors and / or surgical criteria. But it was not until 1977 when Dr. Ludwig presented a scale with 3 degrees of evolution. Currently this scale is the one that is universally accepted.

    What is the Ludwig scale?

    • Type 1:

At this stage there is only a small loss of hair or this becomes finer. It is important to see DHI experts in this fase to reverse the effects so far.

    • Type 2:

Significantly lowers the volume of hair. Midline a decline of hair occurs, leaving an important extension hairless. If you are in this phase, the hair transplant would be a good choice.

    • Type 3:

There is significant hair loss at the top of the head and a considerable extension without hair on the halfway line separation. If you are in this phase, it would be good to go urgently to DHI professional specialists for a hair treatment with scientific methods.

The diagnosis of hair loss in women

  • - Complete Medical Historya
  • - Duration and pattern of hair loss
  • - Medication and diet of the patient
  • - Family history of hair loss
  • - Physical examination of the scalp (alopecia test DHI)
  • - Blood test
  • Causes of female pattern baldness

Several pathophysiological factors can cause androgenic alopecia in women:

  • - More androgen receptors
  • - Lower levels of cytochrome P450
  • - Dry hair compulsively
  • - Alopecia Areata
  • - Triangular Alopecia
  • - Cicatricial Alopecia
  • - Telogen effluvium
  • Medical treatment

Most cases of hair loss in women can be treated by a doctor or a specialist in hair restoration with:

  • - Medical treatment (topical, injectable or medicated)
  • - Platelet-rich plasma PRP
  • - Laser therapy
  • - Hair Transplant

Growth factors of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is injected intradermally into the scalp in order to stimulate the scalp to strengthen hair growth PRP can be used to strengthen the hair follicle, thus ensuring longevity and viability; as well as the maintenance and upkeep of existing hair.
The process of hair restoration PRP, involves centrifugation of patient blood, which is removed before the capillary implantation, a special kit which can extract growth, factors enriched plasma and cytokines (growth proteins) in order to strengthen and improve the longevity of the hair follicle.

    Benefits PRP in hair transplant

There is a growing percentage of positive tests for many researchers, who suggest that PRP offers significant advantages for the treatment of hair loss and can be used in hair restoration surgery. Numerous studies have shown promising results such as:

    - Reduces erythema (redness and irritation)
    - Reduces the formation of the crust or scabs
    - Reduce the trauma and inflammation
    - Reduces customer discomfort and achieves faster healing
    - Accelerates hair growth
    - Increase the size of the follicles per unit
    - Increased longevity of existing hair

Eyebrows are an important component of our facial structure and appearance. Without these characteristics a person may feel very uncomfortable. Some patients have lost eyebrows but seek an improvement for aesthetic reasons.

The following should be evaluated before transplant eyebrows treatment begins:
    - Any local or systemic disease should be treated and controlled to ensure that the restoration can succeed.
    - The obsessive waxing must be treated to ensure that eyebrow hair restoration is successful.
    - A reconstructive surgery for trauma or burns may be needed before a hair transplant eyebrow.
    - Some patients have little or no loss of eyebrows, but seek improvement for cosmetic reasons.

How the hair implantation eyebrows works?

    - Both the specialist DHI, and the patient work together to delineate and design the eyebrow area, keeping the natural symmetry of patients.
    - As the hairs are transplanted, they grow and a new angle, direction and position is created, and may occasionally require a cut, and the use of depilatory creams or waxes.
    - The doctor designs the eyebrow area according to the patient's needs.
    - The required number and type of hair follicle (single or double) requiring for a natural result are taken into account.
    - The Required follicles are extracted from the donor area (usually the back of the head).
    - The extracted follicles are placed in the eyebrow area.
    - Implanted hairs grow throughout the life of a person.

Beard Restoration can be achieved with a minimally invasive direct technique of hair transplantation, under local anesthesia and without creating any scars in the implanted area.
The follicles are extracted from the scalp. Hair follicles transplanted are picked up one by one to match the beard or mustache, and thanks to the procedures and techniques of our trained and qualified physicians, there is total control over the angle, depth and direction of transplanted hair to achieve pleasing result and natural looking.

    How Beard Restoration works?

DHI through medicaments, specialized and innovative tools, and local anesthesia. We begin the procedure when the area is completely numb and the procedure itself is almost completely painless. Patients are aware of the procedure in each step to them easily. After surgery, patients are advised to continue taking medication and precautions for 2 to 3 days and then they can return to their normal routine. The restoration of beard with DHI restores natural looking hair in his beard and mustache. Facial hair requirements are:

    - 600 to 1.000 hair to mustache
    - 1,200 to 1,500 hairs in full chin
    - 400 to 600 hairs on the sides
    - 1,000 to 1,500 hairs on the cheek
